The 20th China Beijing International High-tech Expo

Friends from the media, ladies and gentlemen: Good afternoon!
The 20th China Beijing International High-tech Expo (CHITEC), which is jointly hosted by the Ministry of Science and Technology, State Intellectual Property Office, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), and Beijing Municipal Government, and is organized by CCPIT Beijing Sub-council, will be held in Beijing from June 8th to 10th, 2017. At present, the preparatory work is basically completed. Now, entrusted by the Organizing Committee, I will give a brief introduction to friends from the media about the main activities and preparations for the 20th CHITEC.
This year marks the 20th year since the inauguration of CHITEC, China's first large-scale state-level science and technology convention and exhibition activity. In these twenty years, the CHITEC has always attracted active participation and keen attention from domestic and foreign governments and related scientific and technological, industrial and financial circles. According to incomplete statistics, the previous 19 sessions of CHITEC attracted more than 900 overseas governmental, science and technology and trade delegations from more than 100 countries and regions to attend, with more than 33,000 high-tech enterprises and scientific research institutes launching their latest technological achievements, more than 5.2 million people from all walks of life attending, nearly 1,000 high-end forums and specialized communication activities around more than 200 topics being held, more than 5,200 well-known domestic and overseas scientists, economists and entrepreneurs delivering speeches, more than 200 sessions of trade negotiation activities held involving domestic and foreign investment cooperation, technological trade and key projects of urban development, about 120,000 domestic and foreign businessmen participating, and 5,432 contracts, agreements and intents signed with a total amount of 922.864 billion yuan. The CHITEC has become an iconic brand activity to display the latest domestic and foreign scientific and technological achievements, spread frontier ideas and concepts, publish industry policy information, and promote international economic and technological cooperation. The CHITEC has given full play to the unique resource advantages of the capital city, using the new "five in one" expo mode that combines comprehensive activities, exhibitions, forums and conferences, trade promotions and online presentations to provide practical links for the promotion of integration and coalescence between production, education, research and utilization, to provide technological demonstration for the growth of new kinetic energy and the transformation of traditional kinetic energy, to provide an important platform for deepening international production capacity cooperation and expanding the space of scientific and technological innovation so as to produce positive and far-reaching influence for the development of China’s high-tech industries, the enhancement of the capability of independent innovation and the acceleration of the construction of an innovative country.
The 20th CHITEC is held in the context of accelerated evolution in the new round of global science and technology revolution and industrial transformation, and China’s economic development entering the new normal. The present CHITEC, taking “technology leading integrated innovation” as its theme, will carry out the development concept of being innovative, harmonious, green, open, and sharing, focusing on the publicity of the new national strategy and policy of innovative development, displaying such high-grade, sophisticated and advanced scientific and technological achievements as in space technology, information technology and equipment manufacturing, promoting the flow and transformation of science and technology resources, discussing and exchanging new ideas of scientific and technological innovation leading development, demonstrating and driving industrial transformation and upgrading, and serving the construction of an innovative country and science and technology innovation centers that have global influence, so as to promote economic development towards the high-end level.
The main activities of the present CHITEC include: The symposium will be held at the National Political Consultative Conference Hall on the morning of June 9th, at which high-ranking representatives of international organizations, academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and chief executives of enterprises will be invited to deliver speeches around international economic situation and the major domestic achievements in scientific and technological innovation. The CHITEC exhibition will be held between June 8th and 10th at China International Exhibition Center (the old site), divided into 13 specialized pavilions, including exhibition of smart Beijing and the application achievements of information technology innovation; Beijing·E-town exhibition of science and technology innovation achievements; exhibition of integration between culture and science and technology; exhibition of the 20th anniversary of CHITEC; exhibition of electronic technology; exhibition of Zhongguancun achievements of independent innovation and entrepreneurship; exhibition of aerospace science and technology achievements, exhibition of science and technology innovation achievements by high-tech industry function areas; exhibition of automotive science and technology; exhibition of science and technology innovation and entrepreneurship results by the youth of the capital city; exhibition of circular economy; exhibition of smart education; and exhibition of innovative science and technology achievements by various provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities.
At the same time, the CHITEC will hold 13 sessions of trade promotion activities, including the promotion of scientific and technological achievements and business cooperation projects; investment and financing cooperation fair for science and technology projects; promotion of technological services for the validation and comprehensive evaluation of domestic detection instruments and equipment; 2017 promotion of major projects in China’s smart home furnishing industry; series of promotion and negotiation activities of key projects by provincial, autonomous regional and municipal delegations; 2017 “The Belt and Road” business salon; new Hunan·Zhongguancun fair for collaborative innovative development; series of iheima.com’s 36 stratagems; promotion of Beijing Tianjin Hebei integrity brands in scientific and technological farming; gyqj policy briefing cum release of the new gyqi book (gyqj refers to making the four basics—basic materials, core basic components, advanced basic technologies, and technological foundation—of industry strong); promotion of demonstrative results of China’s innovation in information technology; and promotion of cooperative industrial projects in civil and military integration, with a view to vigorously promoting the transformation of scientific and technological achievements and the docking between industrial cooperation projects.
The CHITEC will also hold 7 specialized forums, including Forum on China’s Finance; Forum on Circular Economy; Forum on Technological Innovation and Urban Development; Forum on Smart Cities; Forum on Zhongguancun Innovations; Forum on the Development of China’s Emerging Industries; and Exchange on the Innovative Development along the Silk Road. The following will become the hot topics at the forums of the present CHITEC: innovation in financial technology serving the real economy, green development and the transformation and upgrading of resource-based cities, disruptive technologies and intelligent manufacturing, the path for smart city development, the new pattern in the Internet+ era, innovation in new material industry and its transformation and upgrading, etc.
Compared with the previous sessions, the present CHITEC has the following 6 distinctive characteristics:
1. Gathering a number of achievements of China’s major technological breakthroughs and emerging strategic industries to lead industrial upgrading
The present CHITEC will highlight the supporting and leading role of science and technology innovation in the construction of an innovative country and boosting the development of emerging strategic industries. A group of major technological breakthroughs that are leading in China or even in the world with independent R & D results and the latest scientific and technological achievements in emerging strategic industries will constitute the main body of this year's exhibition. China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation will put on display such major national science and technology achievements with core competitive advantages as Long March series carrier rockets, Beidou satellite navigation, space station, Tiangong 2 and the docking VR experience cabin, lunar exploration program and Mars probe. China North Industries Group Corporation will showcase high-tech products and technologies that feature civil-military integration and independent innovation such as photoelectric multiplier for neutrino detection, terahertz detector, Beidou mobile intelligent police terminal and underpit on-site mixed explosive vehicle. COMAC will make its appearance at the CHITEC with the large aircraft C919. China Electronics Technology Group Corporation will highlight new-generation electronic information and network technology products such as air traffic control information system, blue ocean information network, intelligent vessel traffic management system and aerospace optical cable. Zhongguancun National Innovation Demonstration Zone, which has attended the CHITEC for 19 consecutive years, will put on display a number of forward-looking, leading and subversive cutting-edge technologies and innovative products in such fields as artificial intelligence, big data, smart hardware, disruptive new materials, high-end equipment manufacturing, energy saving and environmental protection, precise medical care to promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements and to lead industrial upgrading.
2. Serving major national strategies such as the synergetic development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei to promote collaborative regional innovation
The present CHITEC will focus on serving the synergetic development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei to promote the in-depth exchange and cooperation between the three places in such areas as open sharing of science and technology resources, and joint construction of science and technology parks and industrial bases. A pavilion of synergetic development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei is set up at the main venue of exhibition to showcase the achievements of the three places in collaborative industrial innovation. There, the exhibition of smart Beijing and the application achievements of information technology innovation highlights the smart city promoting the city linkage and fine management, the capital city leading collaborative regional economic and industrial development, and integrated development of cities supported by Internet of Things and cloud computing, with a view to facilitating the industrial development and synergetic innovation in the Beijing Tianjin and Hebei area. The promotion of Beijing Tianjin Hebei integrity brands in scientific and technological farming focuses on building a credibility system of scientific and technological agriculture. Zhongguancun Periodical Office and the Baoding municipal government will organize experts and scholars to jointly explore the formation and construction of the new urban agglomeration for collaborative innovation in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei. Hebei Bohai New District will bring 9 functional parks involving such industries as bio medicine, logistics, petrochemical, e-commerce, automobile, high-end manufacturing, bonded logistics and warehousing to seek cooperation in domestic and foreign investment. Forum on the Development of China’s Emerging Industries will invite government officials, experts, scholars, and business executives to explore the development of collaborative innovation in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei and the development of emerging industries around such topics as “intelligent manufacturing promoting the industrial transformation and development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei”, “the layout of Beijing Tianjin Hebei to jointly build the big data corridor”, etc.
3. Highlighting the new products and new formats from the integration of technology with various fields to create a new engine for innovative development
The present CHITEC will conform to the development trend featured by networking, intelligence and integration, highlighting the innovative achievements from the integration of science and technology with other economic and social fields and showcasing the new format of multi-direction fusion to help create a new engine of innovative development. The exhibition of integration between culture and science and technology will put on display in a concentrated manner the achievements featuring the integration between culture and science and technology in such areas as creative design, media integration, culture and education, culture and finance, animation games and entertainment including artificial intelligence shooting system, cognitive ability and EEG analysis training system, immersive simulation game screen, video cloud platform, etc. The exhibition of smart education will bring together more than 50 enterprises to display such new technological applications as education and teaching equipment, multimedia teaching applications, robotics, 3D printing, etc. At the promotion of cooperative industrial projects in civil and military integration, which is included in the CHITEC for the first time, China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation will launch more than 50 defense industry conversion projects including CASICloud and high performance omnidirectional antenna array to open up the circulation channels of technological innovation between civil and military units. At the promotion of demonstrative results of China’s innovation in information technology, authoritative information will be issued to expand such emerging service industries as digital consumption, e-commerce, modern logistics, Internet banking, etc. The investment and financing cooperation fair for science and technology projects will provide docking for technological enterprises and financial investment institutions to broaden investment and financing channels. Forum on China’s Finance will comprehensively analyze the cross-sector development between finance and technology, and discuss the strategy of changing the financial ecology through scientific and technological innovation. Forum on the Innovative Development of China’s Emerging Industries, taking “innovative integration and smart navigation” as its theme, will explore new ways of integrated innovation in such areas as information technology, network economy, and intelligent manufacturing. Forum on Zhongguancun Innovations will conduct exploration and exchange by focusing on topics such as “the new pattern in the Internet+ era”, “the new engine on the road of innovation” to contribute suggestions and ideas to promoting innovative development.
4. Highlighting the advantages of the capital city in accumulating science and technology resources to help the construction of the national science and technology innovation center
The present CHITEC, following closely the strategic positioning of the city of Beijing as the national science and technology innovation center, will tap deeply into the resource advantages of the capital city in the concentration of science and technology talents, scientific research institutes, science and technology enterprises and financial capital to build a platform for gathering science and technology resources so as to lead the innovative industrial development. Zhongguancun, as the national demonstration zone for independent innovation, will, focusing on promoting the innovative development of frontier science and technology, fully display its advantages and experiences in cultivating original cutting-edge technologies, speeding up the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, promoting the upgrading of traditional industries, constructing a “high-grade, sophisticated and advanced” economic structure, and perfecting the ecology for innovation and entrepreneurship, so as to help with the construction of Beijing into the national science and technology innovation center. The present CHITEC will continue to hold the series of activities entitled “seeing Beijing through the CHITEC”, contacting 11 science and technology resource units in 6 categories including national-level laboratories in institutions of higher learning, experience museums of science and technology innovation, museums, experience centers of enterprises, and scientific research institutes, for them to open to the public, so as to promote citizens’ scientific literacy and to enlighten the innovation wisdom of the public. At the exhibition of smart Beijing and the application achievements of information technology innovation, an ad hoc display area for the smart blueprint of the city’s sub-center will be set up to showcase the smart blueprint of the city’s sub-center through such media as texts, pictures, videos, sand tables and real exhibits like smart streetlights. BAIC Group will put on display a powerful lineup of exhibits consisting of new energy vehicles, off-road vehicles, SUVs and intelligent Internet technology, highlighting 17 new models including Saab X55 and new energy EX400L, etc. Beijing’s Dongcheng, Xicheng, Chaoyang, Changping, and Tongzhou districts will, around easing the non-capital functions and constructing a“high-grade, sophisticated and advanced” economic structure, introduce a number of major science and technology projects and technological achievements, so as to help with the construction of Beijing as the national science and technology innovation center.
5. Highlighting science and technology benefiting people's livelihood to stimulate the vitality of innovation and entrepreneurship
The present CHITEC showcases in depth the innovative achievements of smart cities and green environmental protection, highlighting science and technology benefiting people’s livelihood. The exhibition of electronic technology will put on display in a concentrated manner the new technologies and products in the fields of city governance, intelligent transportation, marine electronics, and core devices, including new smart city general function platform, city management center, smart municipal administration, intelligent lamp posts, etc. The exhibition of smart Beijing and the application achievements of information technology innovation will focus on displaying the shared bicycle management system based on satellite navigation and geographical fence, pocket unmanned aerial vehicles, intelligent service robots, intelligent street lamps, and intelligent parking systems, presenting to the audience the future vision of smart city and intelligent life. The exhibition of Zhongguancun achievements of independent innovation and entrepreneurship will not only show new technologies and new projects in such areas of green environmental protection as atmospheric monitoring based on Internet of Things, comprehensive treatment of solid waste, reclaimed water recycling, energy consumption monitoring and data analysis, and the quality and safety of agricultural products, but also bring new technologies and new projects in such health industries as epidemic monitoring, elderly's home care services, online medical consultation, remote consultation, catalyst purification of water, etc., serving people’s livelihood. Forum on Smart Cities provides new models of urban construction and development around such fields as cloud computing, Internet of Things, big data, intelligent hardware, augmented reality, etc. Forum on Circular Economy, taking “green development and transformation and upgrading of resource based cities” as its theme, will discuss the new path of sustainable development for resource based cities.
The present CHITEC endeavors to create the atmosphere for innovation and entrepreneurship to boost public innovation and entrepreneurship. The exhibition of Zhongguancun achievements of independent innovation and entrepreneurship, taking the new ecology of innovation and entrepreneurship as the main line, will showcase in a concentrated manner factors that constitute the ecology of entrepreneurship such as makerspace, innovative incubator, venture investment platform, transformation center for scientific and technological achievements, industrial alliance, etc., highlighting the continuous optimization and radiation of Zhongguancun’s innovation ecosystem. The exhibition of science and technology innovation and entrepreneurship results by the youth of the capital city focuses on the display of gold medal winning projects from the innovation and entrepreneurship competition for the youth of the capital city by Wave Power, Shengyuanbaofeng, Sinofloat, Bjkqhb, etc., covering many areas of mobile Internet, cultural creativity, new energy and energy saving and environmental protection. Apart from demonstrating the demeanor of contemporary youth in entrepreneurship, it also creates a good atmosphere to encourage youth innovation and entrepreneurship and to guide more young people to participate in scientific and technological innovation.
6. Building an open and practical platform for international and domestic exchange to urge project cooperation
The present CHITEC, adhering to the concept of “Beijing building the platform to serve the entire country and face the world”, will make every effort to build a platform for the exchange and cooperation between domestic and international science and technology industries so as to accelerate the upgrading of cross-field and cross-sector synergetic innovation. Five international organizations including UNESCO, the International Energy Agency, the World Bank, the European Investment Bank, and the World Federation of International Chambers of Commerce, and 20 governmental, science and technology, and industrial and business delegations from 19 countries and regions including France, Belgium, Russia, Poland, Hungary, Malaysia, Singapore, Mexico, and Brazil will attend the CHITEC. More than 20 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities and cities specifically designated in the state plan including Tianjin, Hebei, Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang, Shandong, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Chongqing, Sichuan, Guizhou, Tibet, Shaanxi, Qinghai, Ningxia, Xinjiang, Qingdao, Xiamen, and Shenzhen will send delegations to attend the CHITEC. They will form delegations led by the government with enterprises and science and technology parks as the main body to participate in CHITEC activities with an open attitude, showing their advantageous industries with local characteristics and achievements of regional cooperation. The Organizing Committee office has collected in advance the investment projects of provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities to provide more information and cooperation opportunities for enterprises. Hunan province will hold a series of economic and trade activities entitled “Entering Zhongguancun”, including hosting the “new Hunan·Zhongguancun forum for collaborative innovative development”. They will go to Zhongguancun high-tech enterprises to conduct investigation and exchange, to hold meetings for the docking of high-tech achievements, and to promote Hunan for undertaking industries and project docking. The Heilongjiang delegation will bring nearly 40 projects to attend the CHITEC including universal multi-function precursory data collector, the key technology and applications of mobile robot manipulation system, etc., covering such areas as electronic information, new medical technology, biotechnology, high technology to transform traditional industries, energy saving technology for new energy, and new material technology. The Shandong delegation will launch the project of high-tech agriculture zone of the Yellow River Delta, showing the results from the Belt and Road construction and building an open platform for modern agriculture. The Inner Mongolia delegation will not only bring projects of the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries such as the magnetic resonance imaging system by XBO Medical Systems, but also showcase Sino-Mongolian cooperation projects in such fields as scientific and technological research and development and technological transfer to invite investment both from home and abroad and seek cooperation.
This year coincides with the 20th anniversary of the CHITEC. The office of the Organizing Committee will hold a series of activities named "The CHITEC and I” including a themed exhibition of the 20th anniversary of CHITEC at the main exhibition venue, through texts, pictures, videos and other forms, to give a comprehensive presentation of the twenty-year glorious history of the CHITEC along with the development of China’s high-tech industry. What’s more, on the morning of May 27th, we will hold a hiking convention entitled “The CHITEC and I in the past 20 glorious years” in the Olympic Forest Park. We sincerely invite representatives of units that helped organize the previous sessions of the CHITEC, and representatives of domestic and foreign enterprises and institutions that attended the previous sessions of the CHITEC to participate.
