News Briefing about the 8th China (Beijing) International Cultural & Creative Industry Expo

Friends from the media, ladies and gentlemen: Good morning!
The 8th China (Beijing) International Cultural & Creative Industry Expo (ICCIE), which is jointly hosted by the Ministry of Culture, General Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, and the Beijing Municipal People’s Government, is to be held from November 6th to 10th in Beijing. Now, entrusted by the Organizing Committee, I will give a brief introduction to friends and guests from the media present here about the main activities and preparations for the 8th ICCIE.
Since its establishment in 2006, the ICCIE has always served the nation's development strategy of the cultural industry, given full play to the unique advantages of the capital city as a cultural center, and promoted the high-end integration of the national and even global cultural resources, playing an important leading and driving role in the process of China’s cultural and creative industries advancing from the start to the cultivation to today’s phase of rapid development. The 8 years of ICCIE history has expanded its influence, made its brand effect more and more obvious, and become the iconic platform of international exchange and cooperation for China’s cultural and creative industries. The previous 7 sessions of the ICCIE attracted more than 300 governmental and industrial delegations from dozens of countries and international organizations to come and conduct cultural exchanges and discuss cooperation. Thousands of domestic and foreign cultural and creative enterprises displayed and launched their most outstanding cultural products with local characteristics. More than 1,000 influential and renowned domestic and foreign experts and scholars from cultural and creative industries and senior government officials delivered speeches at the ICCIE. According to incomplete statistics, the previous 7 sessions of ICCIE witnessed the signing of contracts amounting to 365.4 billion yuan.
The 8th ICCIE is a grand session for the international exchange and cooperation of the cultural and creative industries held just one year after the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China issued the target of “accelerating the development of a strong socialist culture in China”, when China’s cultural and creative industries have entered a new stage of vigorous development. Taking “Promote cultural trade and speed up economic upgrade” as its theme, the present ICCIE will give a comprehensive display to the latest achievements of reform and innovation of China’s cultural system, highlighting the new appearance of the industry brought by the in-depth integration of culture with technology and the interaction between culture and economy. It will vigorously promote cooperation in cultural trade and investment, attract public participation in a greater scope, expand the cultural consumption market, and conduct full-range and multi-channel international cultural exchange so as to boost Chinese culture going global.
1. Overall Arrangement of Activities
The 8th ICCIE will hold more than 100 activities, covering six series of comprehensive activities, exhibitions, forums and summits, trade promotions, and creative activities.
Comprehensive Activities: The present ICCIE will raise its curtain on November 6th at the Capital Theater. In the spirit of thrift and having an innovative form, a classic drama performance will replace the opening performances of the previous sessions. During the ICCIE, the International Forum on the Development of China’s Cultural and Creative Industries and the promotion of cultural trade policies and key projects and contract signing will be held.
Exhibitions: The main venue is at China International Exhibition Center with a total area of 55,000 square meters. It will set up 16 thematic pavilions, including cultural performing arts and animated cartoon games; arts and crafts; radio, film and television; antiquities and museum-related cultural and creative products; cultural tourist resorts and commodities; creative design; press, publication and copyright trade; creative gifts and art trading; sports industry; young people’s cultural creation; cultural and creative industries of various provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities; quality products of cultural creation from Taiwan; international cultural creation; cultural and creative industries clustering zones; achievements from the integration of culture and economy, and city sculptures.
Sub-Venue Activities: The present ICCIE will set up 20 sub-venues with a total floor space of 165,000 square meters, the largest in ICCIE history. These include the following 11 thematic sub-venues: the 11th China International Expo of Internet Culture; China (Beijing) Gifts Fair; the 3rd Global University Creation Expo; the first Beijing International Cultural Week of Horology; Beijing•International Expo of Chinese Cultural Relics; the 9th Anniversary Exhibition of China Realist School Paintings; Taihu International Book Fair; Art in China—National Art Exhibition; Beijing International Comic Animation Carnival; China International Expo of Enterprises’ Brand Culture; and the third International Metal Art Exhibition. Sub-venues will also be set up in Beijing’s 10 districts and counties of Dongcheng, Xicheng, Chaoyang, Haidian, Fengtai, Shijingshan, Fangshan, Tongzhou, Shunyi, and Daxing, holding more than 30 cultural and creative events..
Forums and Summits: The present ICCIE will hold the main forum “the International Forum on the Development of China’s Cultural and Creative Industries” and six specialized forums. The six forums and summits are: Seminar of “Dialogue between Art and Economy”; Seminar on the Development of International Film Industry; Beijing International Copyright Conference; Seminar on Museums and the Development of Cultural and Creative Industries; Beijing Forum on the Development of Sports Industry; and International Forum on the Development of Animation Games Industry. Authoritative personnel from international organizations and government departments and domestic and international experts, scholars and entrepreneurs from such related industries as film, television, publishing and comic animation will conduct face to face communication and discussion with the participants around the hot issues about the development of related areas of cultural and creative industries.
Trade Promotions: The current ICCIE will further strengthen its transaction function to hold 13 specialized trade promotion activities. These include: Promotion of Cultural and Creative Industry Projects and Cooperation in Resource Development; Promotion of Digital Content • Animation Game Industrial Projects; Promotion on Cross-Strait Trade Opportunities in Urban Cultural and Creative Industries; Beijing International Art Licensing Trade Fair; Beijing series of events in 2013 auction season; Project Signing and Brand Promotion Activities in Cultural and Financial Innovation; Promotion of Beijing Cultural and Creative Industry Investment and Financing Projects; Promotion of Cultural and Creative Industries Clustering Zone Projects; Beijing International Exhibition Fair for Audio Equipment; Recruitment Fair for Cultural and Creative Talents; Promotion Fair of Folk Culture Industry; and series of cultural and creative industry project promotions by various provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities. The present ICCIE will hold a session for the publishing, promotion and discussion on “Series of Indices of China’s Cultural Industry”.
Creative Activities: The current ICCIE will hold 14 sessions of creative activities. They include: The second session of Persons of the Year Selection from China’s Cultural Industry; “Huali Award” of “China Gifts” Design Competition; China “Red Star Award” for Innovative Design; Beijing College Students’ Creativity Market; Arts and Crafts Innovative Design Competition; the Capital of Design—Design Tour; Beijing Teenage Cultural Creativity Festival; Beijing New Rural Youth Creative Design Competition; Industrial Tour—Creative Design and Wonderful Life; Poetic China—Mid-Autumn International Original Poetry Event at China Millennium Monument; China 3D Technology and Innovation Festival; 2013 Seminar on Creativity and Copyright Operation; and Roundtable Meeting of Modern Communication Industry.
2. Main Characteristics
Compared with previous sessions, the current ICCIE features solid cultural connotation, rich content, thrifty form, and pragmatic activities, with more obvious international character and enhanced authoritative, forward-looking and guiding characteristics.
1) Gathering original Chinese cultural brands to set up a multi-cultural trade platform
The ICCIE exhibition gathers cultural brands and quality cultural products. A number of enterprise groups and leading enterprises in the industry which have successfully completed the enterprise restructuring in the reform of the cultural system will launch their latest achievements and brand products in such areas as creation of film and television works, theatrical performances, press and publishing, and comic animation games. New products and new business formats brought by cross-border integration between culture and technology, culture and creation, cultural innovation and such economic areas as manufacturing, tourism and agriculture will dominate the ICCIE exhibition. A large number of national intangible cultural heritage and traditional ethnic craft products will be put on display, of which more than 1000 fine works of art treasure created by top art masters are brought together in the arts and crafts exhibition, which shows the new cultural product market characterized by inheritance and innovation. The award-winning works at such authoritative industrial competitions as China “Red Star Award” for Innovative Design, “Huali Award” of “China Gifts” Design Competition, Arts and Crafts Innovative Design Competition will be put on display for promotion in a concentrated manner, helping to introduce excellent cultural enterprises and brands to the international market.
2) Highlighting cultural and financial innovation to vigorously promote the landing of major industrial products
The present ICCIE will exert greater efforts to promote trade. More than 1000 projects with broad development prospects from the fusion of culture and technology, culture and finance and culture and many industries will be geared to global cooperation and transaction. Of these projects, the support to the cultural industry by financial innovation attracts special attention. Such activities as Project Signing and Brand Promotion Activities in Cultural and Financial Innovation; Promotion of Beijing Cultural and Creative Industry Investment and Financing Projects; Promotion of West Beijing Cultural Industry Investment and Financing Projects; and the National Cultural and Creative Industrial Projects’ Investment and Financing Road Show by Beijing Property Rights Exchange will introduce state-owned commercial banks as well as domestic and foreign private capital to have direct docking with cultural industrial projects. At the series of activities of copyright financial service platform by Beijing International Copyright Trade Center, the first special mutual fund will be set up for the cultural and creative industries, and the promotion activities for copyright financial public service products will be held. The national, provincial and municipal cultural and creative industrial parks and cultural industrial industry clustering zones created by more than 10 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities including Shanxi, Jilin, Tianjin, Heilongjiang, Gansu, Xinjiang, Hebei, Guizhou, Sichuan, Guangxi, Inner Mongolia, and Qinghai will bring their major cultural and creative industrial projects with local characteristics and advantages to attend the ICCIE. Of these projects, those from the fusion of culture with technology accounts for a higher proportion than in the previous sessions. A large number of key cultural and creative industrial projects in various places including the National Animation Industry Comprehensive Demonstration Park in Tianjin, the City Cloud Data Center in Hefei, the Public Technology Service Platform for Creative Digital Industry in Jilin, “Dunhuang Cultural and Creative Industrial Park” which is a new-type industrial park featured by the integral development of technology and culture in Lanzhou, and Beijing’s “China Arts Digital Resource Management and Application Platform” are inviting domestic and foreign businessmen for cooperation.
3) Encouraging cultural consumption to expand cultural consumption market
The present ICCIE focuses on encouraging and guiding the mass cultural consumption demand, gathering diversified, multi-level and multi-field cultural products and original works. At the Exhibition of Radio, Film and Television; the Exhibition of Arts and Crafts; the Exhibition of Museum-Related Cultural and Creative Products as well as the more than 30 cultural activities spread in 9 districts and counties of Beijing, interactive public participation experience, cultural leisure and experience consumption can be seen everywhere. The Exhibition of Cultural Tourism and Tourist Commodities, around the promotion of tourist consumption, will show cultural tourist projects and special tourist commodities in “eating, watching, buying and living”. In the Sports Pavilion, visitors can not only feel the new life brought by the new campers, but also experience the sports leisure culture brought by such new high-tech sports as CS live, KT football, simulated shooting, and digital fitness. At the Exhibition of Quality Products of Cultural Creation from Taiwan which is set up for the 7th consecutive year, Taipei and Taichung for the first time jointly launch the cultural and creative thematic exhibition by the two cities—“Love for the Humanistic Land of Peach Blossom in Taipei” and “Cultural and Creative Capital•Taichung”. More than 150 cultural and creative enterprises from Taiwan will show the urban cultural and creative theme blocks and cultural and creative life in Taipei and Taichung, which are of different styles but equally wonderful.
4) Gathering the capital’s resource advantage as the cultural center to drive the development of the industry through demonstration
The present ICCIE will further bring into play the unique resource advantage of the capital as the national cultural center. The warm support and in-depth participation by relevant state ministries and commissions, central units, universities located in Beijing, as well as industrial associations enhance the authoritative, forward-looking and guiding characteristics of the ICCIE. The Ministry of Culture, General Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, China Association for Science and Technology, Guangming Daily, China Education Television, Renmin University of China, University of International Business and Economics, Central Academy of Fine Arts, China Gift and Leisure Products Association, and China Horologe Association are involved in hosting various special cultural activities that lead the industrial development. Renmin University of China and the Industry Division of the Ministry of Culture will publish “Series of Indices of China’s Cultural Industry” at the ICCIE. The second session of Persons of the Year Selection from China’s Cultural Industry organized by Guangming Daily will announce the results at the ICCIE.
The city of Beijing is wholly motivated. The sub-venues in its9 districts and counties will hold more than 30 rich and colorful cultural and creative events. This is a big rally and parade of the achievements in recent years of the vigorous development of cultural and creative industries. A large number of industrial function zones in the capital with advantageous resources in culture and art, science, technology and education, and creative talents will make their strong debut. A number of national-level cultural industrial parks including CBD-Dingfuzhuang International Media Industry Corridor, National Advertising Industrial Park, China Industrial Park for Innovative Publishing, China 3D Film Industrial Base, Chinese Traditional Opera Cultural Center, National Digital Publishing Base, National New Media Industrial Base, National Music Industrial Base, and National Animation Industrial Base will highlight the new achievements, new patterns and new opportunities for the development of cultural industrial parks in various fields.
5) Expanding the international cultural exchange channels to boost Chinese culture going global
The present ICCIE has expanded the scope of overseas participation, with the degree of internationalization enhanced. Senior officials from such international organizations as the World Intellectual Property Organization and governmental and professional delegations from more than 20 countries including the United States, France, Britain, the Netherlands, Russia and Korea as well as Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions will make a special trip to attend the ICCIE. At the main forum and such industrial forums as film, museum, animation and sports of the ICCIE, world famous artists, management experts and business elites from related areas will conduct communication with their Chinese counterparts to share their artistic achievements and management experiences. At the ICCIE exhibition, business associations and cultural institutions from more than 10 countries including Korea, India, Thailand, Iran, Switzerland, Serbia, and Slovakia will set up special booths to showcase their exotic cultural and creative products. “The Global Students’ Creative Expo” has attracted works from 200 universities and international famous designers including internationally renowned art colleges from the United States, Britain, Spain, Chile, and Italy, design universities from Hong Kong and Taiwan, as well as eight domestic academies of fine arts. The “International Metal Art Exhibition” will display more than 280 pieces of multi-angle, multi-material, and multi-process works of art by artists from 19 countries and regions including the United States, Norway, Britain, Denmark, Sweden, Australia, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Japan, and Korea, showing the diversified development of modern metal art and its wide market outlook. The “Beijing International Cultural Week of Horology”,which is held for the first time, brings together the internationally most representative design works and innovative technology from the world’s top horologe brand enterprises, design masters and independent watchmakers. Authoritative organizations of the horologe industry will also hold new product release.
To promote Chinese culture to “go global” is one of the core objectives of the ICCIE. Such cultural export enterprises as Beijing Galloping Horse Media Co. Ltd., Huayunshangde, China Poly Group, Artron, Sohu ChangYou, and Shade Realm will showcase their new achievements in China radio, film and television “going global” and China comics “going global”.
6) Advocating the thrifty and pragmatic concept to optimize the expo structure
The present ICCIE will strive to be thrifty and pragmatic. At the opening ceremony, an excellent classic drama performance will replace the special theatrical performances of the previous sessions. At the main exhibition hall, we will reduce the image display, but increase the proportion of professional exhibitions, highlighting the new innovative cultural products and new technologies, as well as the physical display of new business formats and the promotion of major industrial projects. Forums and summits are streamlined in a number of ways to be fine and solid, highlighting their forward-looking and guiding nature. Great efforts are made to promote major projects and trade negotiations. Apart from special promotions, space and services are provided at the exhibitions, forums, sub-venues, and creative activities for trade promotion. In order to enhance the effect of the ICCIE, the Office of the Organizing Committee will, after the closing of the ICCIE, provide tracking services for the projects signed so as to extend and diffuse the ICCIE effect.
Friends from the media, today, we have 9 days from the beginning of the ICCIE. The preparatory work for the ICCIE has entered the final phase of implementation. Exhibitor invitation for the main exhibition venue is completed. Project collection and advance docking are in full swing. The Office of the Organizing Committee is making great efforts to invite professional visitors and clients both from home and abroad to visit the ICCIE and join in the communication and negotiations.
