日本国际贸易促进委员会成立于1954年9月，是以企业为会员的民间组织。委员会是为建设和平、民主、自由的日本，为亚洲和世界和平及友好合作，特别为促进当时日本与尚没恢复邦交的新中国及亚洲各国之间，发展贸易和经济交流而创立的。协会积极促进中日正常贸易和多样化贸易，推动中国原油、五矿、煤炭、粮油食品、纺织、土畜、机电产品等大宗商品的进口，促进了日本对华出口各项商品、成套设备和技术合作。

The Association for the Promotion of International Trade. Japan (JAPIT) was established in September 1954. It composed of enterprises as a NGO. The aim of JAPIT is to build a peaceful, democratic, free Japan, to promote trade between Japan and the rest of the world, especially the trade and economic interaction between Japan and Asian countries before rapprochement. The association actively enhance the normal and diversified trade between China and Japan, promoting import from and export to China, including crude oil, mineral products, mine, grain and oils, textile, mechanical and electrical products etc..
