为了打造一个具有东南亚风情和特色的、永不落幕的中国-东盟博览会，根据中国中央政府指示，广西壮族自治区在首府南宁设立了中国-东盟国际商务区，旨在推动中国与东盟各国以及日本、韩国和中国港澳地区的经贸往来，拓展合作领域，建立东盟各国联络中心（办事处）基地园区，使广西和南宁有很好的机会为东盟商务机构提供商务、办公、生活服务，也可以为双方的合作和交流建立一个新的平台。园区的建设对境外企业来说，既能体会到与在本国土地上一样便利的政策，又能深入市场第一线，最大程度地密切与中国企业的合作和服务中国客户。

泰国驻中国商务联络中心就是在这样的背景下成立了，它座落在南宁·中国—东盟国际商务区内，它对于推动泰国和中国之间的贸易、投资等领域的合作将起到重要作用，有助推动双方企业界之间的信息沟通与经验交流，有助双方经贸合作向更多领域扩大和更高层次深化。
