Professor Eric Maskin


Professor Eric Maskin was born in New York City, New York on December 12, 1950. From 1968 to 1972, he attended Harvard University where he received his A.B. in Mathematics and Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics. After he earned his doctorate, Professor Eric Maskin went to the University of Cambridge in 1976 where he was a research fellow at Jesus College, Cambridge. He taught at Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1977-1984 and from 1985-2000 at Harvard University, where he was the Louis Berkman Professor of Economics. In 2000, he moved to the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey. In 2007 and 2004, he was awarded as honorary professor of Tsinghua University and Wu Han University respectively.

Professor Eric Maskin has worked in diverse areas of economic theory, such as game theory, the economics of incentives, and contract theory. He is particularly well known for his papers on mechanism design/implementation theory and dynamic games. His current research projects include comparing different electoral rules, examining the causes of inequality and studying coalition formation.

He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Econometric Society, and the European Economic Association, and a Corresponding Fellow of the British Academy. He was president of the Econometric Society in 2003.

In 2007, Professor Eric Professor Eric Maskin  was rewarded Nobel laureate in Economics , recognized with Leonid Hurwicz and Roger Myerson ,"for having laid the foundations of mechanism design theory." He is the Albert O. Hirschman Professor of Social Science at the Institute for Advanced Study, and a visiting lecturer with the rank of Professor at Princeton University.

        埃里克•马斯金教授1950年出生于纽约州纽约城。1972年至1976年获哈佛大学数学系学士、应用数学系硕士及博士;获得博士学位后,于1976年赴剑桥大学深造,成为耶稣学院研究员。
        自1985年起,埃里克•马斯金教授曾先后在哈佛大学、麻省理工大学、剑桥大学以及普林斯顿大学等多所国际著名院校担任教学和研究工作,并于2007年和2004年分别受聘为我国清华大学、武汉大学名誉教授。1981年,埃里克•马斯金教授还先后在世界计量经济学会、欧洲经济协会、美国经济协会以及社会选择与福利协会等多个学术团体及协会任职。 2003年马斯金教授担任世界经济计量学会主席。
        他的研究领域包括公共选择理论、博弈论、激励理论与信息理论以及机制设计等。其研究课题包括比较不同的选举规则,检验不平等机制之成因,调查联盟的形成等。
        2007年,埃里克•马斯金教授由于“机制设计理论”获诺贝尔经济学奖。现任美国普林斯顿高级研究所社会科学院教授。
